My Fishing Buddy Never Pays for Fuel — forester

I think my fishing friend is taking advantage of me. He brings snacks and sometimes brings beer but never offers to pay for gas. It’s really expensive these days! I thought he would get the hint when I would not fuel up before picking him up. Then I would go to the fuel dock with him. But no. Sometimes when I make a comment like “woah, gas ain’t cheap these days”, he nods like he knows, then does a little more, like buying me a beer after the trip. It seems like he’s really not being a good friend.

Is his name Swanson? He’s not being a good friend. He’s taking advantage straight up. I would go out without him next time and take someone else if you can. Maybe he’ll get the picture.

There’s a lot someone can do to help besides pay for gas. I’m the best fisherman so I think my skills should be worth somethin. I also know how to fix boats and usually my friends take advantage of that. Maybe forester’s friend is a boat fixer.

Not bad points. The important part is, you should be having a good time out on the water with your friend and not feel like you’re paying for everything. You should really address it directly. Tell him you think you should split all expenses. Tell him you’ll help pay for snacks and he should help pay for gas. If he gets uncomfortable, try to acknowledge that he’s been helping a bit, but the cost of gas has gone up, and it seems unbalanced.
